8) Salary Cap
a) The cap for 2015 is $1102.50. The Cap was increased from the original $1000 by 5%.
b) It is a hard cap during the season meaning you can never be over $1102.50
c)Teams can be over the cap from after the championship game until March 1st (off season)
d) The cap increases by 5% every year on March 1st.
e) Players with expiring contracts need to be dropped and teams need to be under the cap again by March 1st.
f) A team that misses the March 1st deadline will be hit with a 5% cap penalty for the season.
g) All players released because of salary cap issues will become UFA's
h) A team that releases a player with a multi year contract will be hit with a cap penalty
i) The cap penalty in the year of the player's release is 100%...2nd year penalties are as follows;
2 years remaining on the contract, 40% is deducted in the 2nd year.
3 years remaining on the contract, 60% is deducted in the 2nd year.
4 years remaining on the contract, 80% is deducted in the 2nd year.
5 years remaining on the contract, 100% is deducted in the 2nd year.
j) In other words, if you cut a player with a 4yr x $100 contract then the full $100 would count against you in the current season but $80 of his salary would count against your cap in the following season. There is no penalty after the second year.
k) There is a maximum total years contract cap of 115 years. Taxi squad players do not count against the 115 years until they are promoted.
