9) Contracts and Extensions
a) Players with 1 yr or more remaining on their contracts after March 1st deductions can remain on rosters.
b) Players acquired from free agent auction or rookie draft must be signed to a contract.
c) Contracts can range from 1-5 years but for a rookie acquired in the UFA auction to be put on the taxi squad, he MUST be assigned a 3 year contract.
d) Team owners have to assign contracts to free agents one week after the end of the auction.
e) All rookies acquired in the draft will be signed to a three year contract.
f) Rookie players placed on the taxi squad can remain there for a maximum of three years. They can be activated at any time and extended or kept under their current contract. Rookies can be extended in the final year of their contract. If you draft Gio Bernard in 2013 he can be left on the taxi squad until Feb 28th of 2016 before he needs to be extended.
g) Contracts that "expire" to 0 on March 1st will go to free agency
h) Existing players with more than 1 year remaining, have their contract years reduced by 1.
i) Player salaries increase on March 1st by 10% over the previous year.
Contract Length Inflation over 5 years
Year 1 $1.00
Year 2 $1.10
Year 3 $1.21
Year 4 $1.33
Year 5 $1.46
j) Owners can extend any player's contract from the announcement of holdouts following week 16, through the start of the first week 5 games the following year, with the exception of players in their last contract year.
k) Players in the last year of their contract must be extended by August 15th
l) A team can not extend the same player twice unless he resigns him in FA. Franchise tags, transition tags, or signing a new contract at the end of a Stage 2 holdout, are not considered an extension.
m) Contract extensions increase the player's salary by a minimum of 20%
n) The minimum salary for extending any player contract is $10.
o) Player extension's must be announced on the message board (Player name and contract length) by August 15th. The contract extension begins immediately, so the players salary increases by a minimum of 20% from the day, it's announced on the message board. The player will still receive a 10% salary increase every year going forward like every other player.
p) Extensions submitted after the deadline will not be honored.
