15) Unrestricted Free Agent Auction
a) Any undrafted rookies & unrestricted free agents will be available in the free agent auction.
b) The league will hold a free agent auction every season.
c) The free agent auction is not mandatory.
d) A maximum of 35 players will be allowed up for auction at any given time.
e) The auction is conducted on the MFL league website.
f) The free agent auction will be conducted approximately 2 weeks after the rookie draft has completed.
g) Players signed during the free agent auction may be signed to contracts ranging from 1-5 years.
h) Designation of all contract lengths shall be required within one week of the end of the auction.
i) If no notice is received, all players will be placed on 1 year contracts.
j) During the auction, no players may be cut by any team. However, trading of players is allowed during the auction, including players recently acquired with a winning bid. The owner who trades for a player acquired in the UFA Auction before the contract deadline has the right to assign the contract length .
Demoting of eligible players to the TS is allowed during the auction. Once demoted, those TS players are committed to a 3 year rookie contract. See Taxi Squad rules for details on TS player activation.
